Overview of the weekend

The event will run from Friday 19 October until Sunday 21st; which will encompass an opening Ceremony and Welcome Event for attendees to meet others involved in CoderDojo globally. The main conference will take place on Saturday 20th in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny. Sunday, is an opportunity to get all Ninjas (7-17 years olds) together for a fun filled Hackathon.

Additionally community members who arrive early on Thursday can also attend the locally run #TechThursdays. These free sessions and panel talks explore different themes relevant to tech innovation and give an opportunity to visitors to meet locals involved in the IT sector.

Saturday Workshops and Speakers

The main conference will begin on Saturday morning with a welcome ceremony for attendees, after which attendees will break off to participate in a selection of workshops, fireside chats and hear from inspiring speakers.

The workshops will adopt a variety of themes and will cater for varying levels of ability. The delegates will be assigned workshops based on their interests. Each conference room will represent a theme of workshops including

  • Technology
  • Design
  • Community
  • Diversity

There will be a dedicated room for fireside chats during the day, with a panel of experts answering questions in an informal setting. In the morning there will be a fireside chat on data protection and the afternoon will include a fireside chat with women in technology. The main conference will conclude with a closing ceremony in the hotel Ballroom, followed by live music in Billy Byrnes pub, Kilkenny city. Tickets for Saturday include these activities along with lunch and refreshments during the day.

Who is it suited to?

  • The workshops will be targeted at Ninjas over the age of 13, and adults involved in CoderDojo clubs. There will be workshops for all levels of mentors and parent volunteers.
  • The workshops are also catered for those interested in setting up their own Dojo.
  • We would like to extend a special invite to students and educators involved or interested in the new leaving certificate computer science program.
  • These workshops are open to anyone interested in technology, and will be an opportunity to network with like minded individuals and meet companies who are invested in building a strong tech community.
