What happened at DojoCon 2016?

dsc_0039This year’s DojoCon was one of our most international and diverse yet. Dojo members travelled from Belgium, around Ireland, Italy, Japan, Turkey, the Netherlands, the UK and the USA to meet, share and gain insight from each others experiences of CoderDojo.

Friday

The Conference was opened on Friday night with lively ‘soapbox’ talks where members of the CoderDojo community as well as the general public were invited to talk and discuss ideas related to the movement, coding and technology more generally.

After the talks, attendees were brought to a local bar for food and refreshments where discussions continued, as long standing and new members of the CoderDojo movement became acquainted.

Saturday

dsc_0109On Saturday the more in-depth learning experiences were had, as leading members from right around the world give their insights and perspective on all aspects of the movement, from practical Dojo activities to regionalisation.

Practical workshops as well as Dojo sessions were also held. The first Dojo session being run by CoderDojo Romania.

Some presentations from the day:

The event also provided an excellent opportunity for community members to meet the Foundation team and to hear about our strategythe community platform, Dojo resources and the importance of reporting.

At the closing of DojoCon 2016, the host of next years DojoCon was announced…Warrington Dojo in the UK!

2017 will be the first year DojoCon will be held outside of the island of Ireland and we are very excited to see what the very capable team at Warrington come up with!

On Saturday night, after we had heard from such a wide array of speakers, we discussed all that we had learned over the weekend and looked forward to DojoCon 2017!

dsc_0088On Sunday DojoCon attendees and their families spent a few hours at the local park for “DojoCamp” where CoderDojo sessions ran in a marquee during the afternoon.

Well done to the DojoCon 2016 team from Dun Laoghaire Dojo for organising such an amazing event!
