Dojo Heros: What Tramore Dojo have achieved since September
Karen, Champion of Tramore Dojo, (located in Waterford, Ireland) tells us the highlights of all they have achieved since last September thanks to their hard work and dedication.
September began with Waterford Technologies sponsoring CoderDojo Tramore’s new T-shirts so our volunteers are easily identifiable by ninjas and parents. The T-shirts display the logo of their new cloud-based solution SISCIN’s, which was launched recently.
Celebrating Code Week
Students from Waterford Institute of Technology visited CoderDojo Tramore for Europe Code Week, a grassroots initiative to bring coding and digital literacy to everybody in a fun and engaging way. They displayed impressive skills in Virtual Reality and drone aircraft. The day coincided with our Halloween party, so costumed coders celebrated with swooping drones along the tracks at Tramore Racecourse, thanks to Anton Krug, 4th Year Applied Computing.
In December, for the first time CoderDojo Tramore went online and joined millions of people in 180+ countries in the ‘Hour of Code’, thanks to Andy Green and our latest sponsor Total Wireless. Wifi access is now available for our future sessions!
‘Display and Play’
We also had a ‘Display and Play Session’ where kids brought in their cool tech toys for others to have a go. We had VR headsets, smartphone controlled robots Sphero and Ollie and the highlight of the day was Gavin Lawrence’s Meccano robot which operates by voice control and can dance!
Another first for CoderDojo Tramore, we had a separate Christmas party excursion for our Teen Club. They had a special treat thanks to John Power and Waterford Airsoft Shooting Range. Kids and ‘big kids’ had a blast and were delighted with the mini-tech lesson about new interactive features being implemented. We plan on having more team building exercises to encourage collaboration for future projects.
Our younger ninjas were excited to see the Dooly’s chipper van arrive. We are very grateful for their continued support. They have found us at three different locations so far, but thanks to Waterford & Tramore Racecourse we have made ourselves at home in their Graun Suite for the foreseeable future.
Returning #BackToDojo in 2017
CoderDojo Tramore’s first session in 2017 is on January 21st when we celebrate our 3rd birthday party, with more coding fun and games. Our continuing success is a real team effort, we sincerely thank all our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and parents; and wish you a very Happy New Year!
Thanks to Karen and Tramore Dojo for sharing their notable moments with the CoderDojo community.
