A fresh look for the Community Platform

September has rolled around again. Desks and chairs are being dusted down for many Dojos around the world who took a seasonal break. Veteran CoderDojo volunteers are brainstorming what resources to use when their Dojo is back up and running, whereas others may just be kicking off for the first time. For some, this experience may be daunting or hard work. For others, this may be exciting and energising. For many volunteers, this will lie somewhere in between.

During the summer, the CoderDojo Foundation team have been revisiting how to enable each and every one of our volunteers to run their Dojo in the easiest manner possible. One of the ways we have decided to do this is through a redesigned user interface on our core website.

Re-visiting our User Experience

The primary objective of our website is to be user friendly to the entire community who visit it; parents, volunteers, and especially young people. We went back to the drawing board this summer for our refreshed CoderDojo strategy and thought about how we could achieve this. The main conclusion we arrived at was the need to amalgamate the CoderDojo Community Platform, the CoderDojo resources site and the main CoderDojo website so that the user journey is simplified for all users.

When you are signed in you can see a second navigation under your name which brings you straight to edit your profile, see all your events and manage your Dojo!

What’s Next

This is only the beginning of our redesign. In the coming weeks, watch out for new event pages, manage users pages, badge awarding and start a dojo process.

Over the next year we will be creating new features and amalgamating old features to ensure that all of our infrastructure is straightforward and simple to use.

We’re here to help!
