CoderDojo Ireland Board Selected

We are delighted to introduce the very first board of CoderDojo Ireland. The board met yesterday afternoon for an in depth discussion on a number of topics including CoderDojo Ireland’s strategy and purpose, governance and the best course of action to take in relation to the upcoming changes with the Charity Regulator.

The five selected board members are:

Sandra Maguire: Dun Laoghaire (Dublin), DojoCon 2016 Host
Eugene McDonough: Limerick Dojo, DojoCon Founder and 2012 Host
Karl Reinhardt: Galway Dojo, CoderDojo Child Protection Trainer
Declan Buckley: Milltown (Kildare)
David Hodge: CIT (Cork) Dojo

We extend our congratulations to the new board and the best of luck!

I am coming up to my retirement in July, and would love to take up coding as a pastime initially, and hopefully leading to a more serious interest if things go well. Most of the classes seem to be directed to children, are there also classes for people like myself? I am a resident of Galway city. I would be obliged if you could advise of any classes locally , or any internet based classes to get me started .

Hi Ciaran,
thanks for getting in touch. CoderDojo is aimed at 7-17 year olds, but our resources are open to anyone for free. Check out our resources here. There are some Dojos running in the Galway area, but these are aimed specifically at 7-17 year olds. Another useful site are code academy, which offer introduction tutorials to computer languages for free. Udemy also have some useful courses, though these generally cost some money. Best of luck with your retirement and hope you have fun learning coding! Nuala
