MegaDojo Netherlands: Inspiring future Champions

On February 17th a MegaDojo was held in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. The event, organised by Ziggo and the CoderDojo Netherlands was launched at 2pm (UTC+1).

The MegaDojo was attended by 1,024 children.

The attendees coded in the Scratch language. Two hundred mentors also attended to facilitate the event. Peter O’ Shea, our community & events lead at CoderDojo also attended the MegaDojo Netherlands event.

Events such as this MegaDojo are important for raising awareness of the organisation and getting more children involved.

8.3% of 1,612 people, who signed up to start a Dojo, heard about CoderDojo at an event.

Last year alone we have attended more high profile events than ever before. CoderDojo was represented at the Salesforce World Tour, SXSWEdu, Dreamforce and many other events in order to continue to spread the word. From January to July 2015, 72 people were led to CoderDojo directly because they attended one of those events. In total, 131 people saw CoderDojo at an event and almost immediately decided they wanted to set up their own Dojo.

We attend and support youth focused events and initiatives such as the BT Young Scientist and Eir Junior Spider Awards. This brings CoderDojo straight to our target audience. We also run our own community focused events for both kids, Coolest Projects, and adults, DojoCon.

By holding our own events it gives us the opportunity to put the CoderDojo name out to the general public and have them come along to see the amazing things that children in CoderDojo are doing.
