CoderDojo & the BBC micro:bit!
We are delighted to announce that CoderDojo are a part of a groundbreaking collaboration with the BBC and 29 other partners which was unveiled today. The landmark BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer which will be given to every year 7 child in the UK for free in order to inspire digital creativity and develop a new generation of tech pioneers.
CoderDojo’s role in this partnership is to host a number of micro:bit events across the UK to focus on using and learning with the device. In addition we will integrate the use of micro:bit into CoderDojo sessions and encourage the community to create their own challenges for the micro:bit that includes interfacing with a range of other devices.
Meet the BBC micro:bit!
The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that you can code, customise and control to bring your digital ideas, games and apps to life. It was designed to be fun and easy to use. You can create projects in seconds, like lighting up its LEDs or displaying a pattern. You don’t have to be a coding wizard to create cool projects with the micro:bit all you need is imagination and creativity!
The BBC micro:bit also connects to other devices, sensors, kits and objects, and is a great companion to Arduino, Galileo, Kano, littleBits and Raspberry Pi, acting as a springboard to more complex learning.
Each element of the BBC micro:bit is completely programmable via easy-to-use software on a dedicated website (available later in the summer at www.microbit.co.uk) that can be accessed from a PC, tablet or mobile. Once logged in on the website, you can save and test your projects in a simulator before they are transferred to your micro:bit!
