Recommended Practice Pilot Complete!
The CoderDojo Recommended Practice pilot has now come to a close.
Out of the 30+ Dojos who initially signed up for the pilot we now have 13 Dojos aligned with CoderDojo Recommended Practice! Thank you to everyone who participated.
Recommended Practice is a set of best practice principles that ensure Dojos are doing all they can to create a safe space for the young people and volunteers who attend.
It has been a long road for all involved with the project beginning in January 2014 with in depth research of best practice standards for international youth organisations. After an extensive consultation with the CoderDojo Community, pilot participants worked tirelessly through 2015 to provide evidence that their Dojos align with the five principles outlined below:
- 1. Building a volunteer led community
- 2. Creating a safe place for young people
- 3. Encompassing the CoderDojo Ethos
- 4. Online Safety
- 5. Review and Communication
You can see the Code of Recommended Practice here: Code of Recommended Practice.
The CoderDojo Foundation have seen the CoderDojo Recommended Practice as a great success that primarily displays the dedication of volunteers around the world who work tirelessly to ensure the best possible environment for the young people and volunteers at their Dojos.
With the development of the CoderDojo Community Platform Recommended Practice is going to be integrated into the on boarding process for new Dojos and as such will not be promoted for Dojos to align until that time. However, if your Dojo would like to work towards aligning with Recommended Practice in the meantime please feel free to contact info[at]coderdojo.[com] and we will guide you through the process.
