CoderDojo Ninja Lauren (10) teaches Taoiseach Enda Kenny to code!

Yesterday Coderdojo Ninja and EU Digital girl of the year, Lauren, thought Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, to code at and event organised by Excited Ireland to promote the Hour of Code! At the event long time supporter of CoderDojo and founder of Excited Ireland, Ciaran Cannon (TD), commented on the importance of giving the nations youth access to learning to code:
“This is indicative of the priority we have as a nation, in ensuring that our young people have the skills for the future and that they have the skills to shape that future!”
Also at the event, Harry McCann, (CoderDojo Clane Champion and founder of the Digital Youth Council) commented on the advantage of learning to code at a young age:
“Coding allows kids to gain a skill at a young age that they can use in college and work”
Join the Hour of Code
The Hour of Code 2014 takes place from December 8th to 12th this year, they are calling on people from all walks of life to get involved and to sign up for an Hour of Code in a school, community centre or workplace near them! In support of the global movement we are working with partners locally including Coder Dojo, Junior Achievement, Foroige, the Arts Council, the Digital Schools and plan to get more than 100 events up and running on December 8th.
