The Hays Hour of CoderDojo receives a special guest!
Hays Hour of CoderDojo
Recently the The Duke of York visited the Hays CoderDojo in London to support children taking part in the UK Hour of Code. The Hour of Code initiative aims to get more young people coding this year by exposing them to their first Hour of Code. The Dojo was co-ordinated by Hays Recruitment (UK) and Rob Curran, the champion of Wilmslow CoderDojo and was hosted by Hays at their offices in London. In less than two days the Hour of CoderDojo event sold out with 100 young people registering for the Dojo! This is a testament to the ever growing demand for CoderDojos around the world.
Here’s todays lesson plan created by Wilmslow CoderDojo! There are four levels all teaching cool new ways to code with Scratch. Are you able to get to lesson four? We are currently remodeling the CoderDojo knowledge base Kata and there will be lesson plans like this and more available for all CoderDojos to use.
The Hays Dojo received 100 special guests eager to code and be a part of the Hour of Code. Some students began mentoring others from their knowledge getting inspiration from CoderDojo Oxford ninja Tyriah (aka Kid Coder) who was also mentoring at the event. Peer to peer learning is something we love to see at a Dojo as it’s a great way for young people to connect and develop around a common interest.
CoderDojo Wilmslow champion Rob Curran mentors these students about linking controls to the movement of their sprites from their Dojo sheets and shows them some cool quick tips when using Scratch!
Soon after the Hays Dojo started the Duke of York arrived to show his support for the young people taking part in the Hour of Code. The new CoderDojo ninjas were more than happy to school him about the Scratch projects that they had been developing at the Hour of Code event!
At 7pm the event came to a close with 100 young people coding for the first time as part of an Hour of Code 🙂 Congratulations to all the organisers, mentors and attendees that made the Hays Hour of Code Dojo a success!
THANK YOU FOR TAKING PART IN THE HOUR OF CODE.
